Over the past weeks, the Corozal Town Council has been giving Central Park some much needed attention. The Council has installed close to three dozen solar lights in the park, to get rid of the old incandescent bulbs, and support a more environment-friendly family space.
The Council has an over-arching goal of going solar/going green at our public parks to help our country's national goal of reducing its carbon emission footprint in support of climate change mitigation. Simultaneously, the installation of solar-powered lights will help to cut the Council's electricity bill which includes the cost of lights at parks and other public spaces.
Additionally, the fountain has been repaired and has received a new paint job.
The Council plans to soon refurbish the gazebo for it to become useful once more.
Mayor Rigo Vellos and the Corozal Town Council ask residents to do their utmost best to take care of the investments in the park as the Central Park is undoubtedly one of our key landmark spaces, and one of the most beautiful parks in the country.
If anyone is seen tampering with the solar lights or vandalizing the park, we ask you to please report it to the Police for immediate action.
The Council thanks the St. Francis Xavier Credit Union for their unwavering support in the improvement of Central Park.
