Belize Weather Forecast: February 15, 2023

General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Clear skies throughout the country, including in San Pedro. A fresh east to southeasterly airflow will support fair and mostly dry conditions.
Advisories: A small craft caution remains in effect for gusty winds and occasionally rough seas.
24-hour forecast: Sunny with a few cloudy spells today and partly cloudy tonight. Little or no rainfall is expected.

Outlook: For Thursday and Thursday night is for continuing fair, breezy and dry weather conditions.
Sargassum Forecast from February 14 to February 22: There is a medium to high chance that new sargassum mats could affect coastal communities across the country during the next few days. San Pedro has a high probability and a moderate expected impact.

Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

There is a Gale Warning in effect for the coastal waters offshore Colombia. A weak surface trough that had extended from SE Cuba to W of Jamaica has dissipated overnight, as has associated convection. The basin is thus left in a tradewind dominated regime, with mainly fresh E winds, with the exception of strong trades in the south-central basin and S of Hispaniola. Outside of the seas associated with the gales, described above, waves are 5 to 7 ft in the basin, except 2 to 5 ft in the NW Caribbean.

For the forecast, a strong pressure gradient will persist across the south central Caribbean Sea through the forecast period, supporting fresh to strong easterly trades. Large NE to E swell with seas to 10 ft is over the tropical N Atlantic. Winds and seas in this region will slowly diminish through tonight.

A small craft caution remains in effect for occasionally gusty winds and locally rough seas. 24hr Forecast: Mostly sunny skies today. Tonight skies will be partly cloudy to clear. Little to no rainfall is expected. Outlook: For Thursday afternoon thru to Friday midday is for fair, dry and windy conditions to prevail.
