The Caribbean Sea
An 1026 mb high near the northwest Bahamas continues to support a
NE to ESE trade-wind regime across the entire basin. Patchy
trade- wind showers are seen south of the Dominican Republic and
Puerto Rico. Outside the Gale Warning area, strong to near-gale
NE to ENE winds with 8 to 10 ft seas are present at the south-
central basin. Moderate to fresh with locally strong ENE winds and
seas of 5 to 7 ft are found over the north-central basin,
including the Windward Passage. Fresh to strong E to ESE winds
and 6 to 8 ft seas are occurring at the Gulf of Honduras. Mainly
moderate ENE to ESE winds with 4 to 6 ft seas prevail for the
remainder of the basin.
For the forecast, the 1026 mb high will maintain fresh to strong
trades across the central Caribbean for the next several days.
These winds should gradually decrease in both speed and coverage
starting Sun. Fresh to strong NE to E winds will also occur in
the Windward Passage and lee of Cuba through Sun. Strong to near
gale E to SE winds in the Gulf of Honduras will continue through
Sun morning. Looking ahead, large long-period N swell will impact
the waters near Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands by Sun night.

When will it Rain in the Caribbean When will it rain across the Caribbean? The dry pattern is locked in BUT that pattern will break down in two weeks. In the short-term, only isolated showers will be around. It will stay wet, however, in Guyana and Suriname. By early to mid-March, we'll see a more active pattern with at least the chance of scattered showers.
On Ambergris Caye this morning it's a sunny warm day but the wind is kickin at 25 mph from the East. We have Advisories: **Small craft caution for coastal waters of Belize.
It looks as if there is or has been a cool air bubble moving past us, deflecting the Caribbean winds, but that is now passing over Cuba, not coming near us. There are patches of cloud out at sea and some have been causing rain earlier, but drying up now.
Looks as if today will be mainly sunny but with significant white clouds, no rain expected.

A gusty east to southeasterly airflow will continue to support mainly fair conditions. Small Craft Warning is in effect for strong, gusty winds and rough seas. Small crafts should remain in safe harbor.
24hr Forecast: Sunny with a few cloudy spells during the daytime and partly cloudy tonight. Showers, if any will be isolated.
Outlook: For Saturday afternoon to Sunday midday is for continuing fair, breezy and mostly dry weather conditions.
Drought & Dust Hit the Caribbean The drought is getting worse, and dust is moving into the Caribbean. Water restrictions remain for many locations, including Jamaica. Some areas will see rain, mainly south of Trinidad and Tobago. With the dry pattern, water shortages will only get worse and cause issues with agriculture. I will monitor the situation closely.
EARTHQUAKE: There was an earthquake early this morning north of Anguilla and Saint Martin. It was a 4.5 magnitude, in the Atlantic. There was no tsunami threat.
