A man reportedly drowned at around one-thirty this afternoon, following a shootout between two groups near the Pueblo Nuevo Ferry. The man who drowned was reportedly along with one of the groups. He decided to swim across the river but went under. We have not yet been able to confirm his identity, however, reports are that police have intercepted a GMC vehicle and have detained its driver. The other vehicle, a blue Ford Escape, was reportedly fleeing an area with the GMC in hot pursuit. We were informed that the occupants of both vehicles were engaged in an open exchange of gunfire with high-powered weapons. Unconfirmed reports are that two persons were wounded in the crossfire and were transported to the Northern Medical Plaza in Orange Walk for urgent medical attention.
