Belize snagged silver in this year's Women's U19 Central American Championship. It was a stellar performance, as the team lost only one game to regional powerhouse Costa Rica. And they gave the Belizeans in a rocking Civic Center one for the ages on Friday night with a five set victory over Guatemala.

With footage from GOLIVE Belize - Jomarie Lanza looks at the last two games:

The atmosphere Friday night inside the Civic was electric with excitement as Belize's Under 19 Female Volleyball Team faced off against their arch-rival Guatemala, in a tight 5 set game. Belize emerged victorious 3-2, with a total of 31 points to Guatemala's 23 points. But the team's victory didn't stop there. On Saturday The girls played their final game against El Salvador, closing off the tournament with a score of 3-0. The proud silver medalists appeared on Sun Up this morning, and gave us an insight into what it was like on the court:

Khaya Gordon, U-19, Outside Hitter
"In the fourth set knowing that they won 2 and we only had one set. In the fourth set I was very eager, I also became very cocky with the team because I really wanted that win and I also let my team know that I wanted that win. And we regrouped ourselves really well when playing and yeah we won that fourth set. And for the fifth set I was very anxious, I'm always anxious about the fifth set because anything could happen. I'm always anxious when we enter the fifth set, but our team did great because yes, that payback was heartfelt. I honestly felt after winning the set, after that 15th point I cried because it was a lot, it was a lot knowing that last year that team was the one who you know had us lose against, I mean had us come in second to them, knowing its Guatemala and that win was just very personal to me."

And while Gordon's focus was to help her team secure this meaningful win, team captain and setter, Avianka Avila told us that her objective was to keep the team motivated and determined, refusing to let morale slip - even in the face of adversity:

Avianka Avila, Team Captain, Setter
"Well I myself was also a bit anxious because you know our country is counting on us to get a win especially with Guatemala you know we have our little rivalry with them, but my main goal was just to try to keep everyone encouraged. You know we can do this. We have the ability to beat them so it was just to keep motivating my teammates to do the best that we can."

"Leading up to this tournament we practiced twice a day for about two hours each practice and we have been practicing since, from about last year. Yeah and going to the tournament especially that particular game where we had to do all five sets takes a lot of energy. I know Khaya was tired by this time."

Gordon pushed through till the end, despite still recovering from a shoulder injury. And her efforts did not go unrecognized by the Women's U19 Central American Championship. She was awarded best scorer and Attacker, and her teammate, Blessed Omamurhe, also received an award for Best Blocker.

The Belize girls got silver - tying our best ever showing ever in the competition - while the gold went to Costa Rica:

And now that The girls have made their mark in Belizean sporting history, the Men's Central American Volleyball Championship is set to begin on Sunday August 6th and will end on August 12th.
