Hi Everyone

My name is Audrey and my husband and I are planning to come to San Pedro (specifically Ambergris Caye) next year. This is a very special place for both of us, as our families met on the island in the early 70's when my parents lived there, and his grandparents had a holiday home there.
One thing that would make our trip extra special is to find my parents and my husbands grandparents properties. They were located relatively close to each other.

My parents were Hugo and Lidija Greipl - my dad Hugo was German, and my mom, Lidija was Croatian. They had a small resort called Casa Solana which I believe they sold in the 1970s. They then relocated back to the US before migrating to Australia in the 1980's.
My husbands grandparents were William (Bill) and Juanita Bellamy - the whole Bellamy family did come often to the island - Bill and Juanita's children (Gary and Bill) and my husband (Tony) and his sister Lisa Bellamy. Their property was named 'the Bellamy House", the Bellamy's live/ed in Jacksonville/Panama City, FL USA and San Antonio, TX.

Fast forward 40+ years and The Bellamy family and Greipl family re-united in Florida, where Bill and Juanita's grandchild (Tony) and myself, caught up, and married shortly after - a great love story created well before we were both conceived that started with wonderful friendships in San Pedro!

Both properties are no longer standing - I believe the Bellamy Island house now has condo's - and I don't know what is now on the property my parents owned - but would someone know the location of where these properties were?

Our parents/grandparents were friends with Juanita and Tuto Allamia (sp?)- and in 2018 I did make it to Belize City and Juanita and my dad Hugo were reunited, however I have not been able to make contact since.

I can post some photos of the properties if this helps jog any locals memories!

If anyone has any information that they could share with me, it would mean alot!

Thanks!

I know exactly where the properties are that you wish to find. The properties look nothing like they used to all those years ago. Casa Solana is now a part of Royal Palm Villas - a condo complex. And the Bellamy property is a few hundred feet to the south and now called Grand Colony, also a condo complex.

Ms Juanita lives in town in the Alijua building- right in the heart of town on the main front street. Her kids and grand kids all live on the island and can be relatively easily tracked down. George and Alida Alamilla.

Hi Amanda,

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I did find the Alijua building online - a really old website, and the phone/email doesn't seem to go through. Would you happen to have a contact number/email address for them there?

Did you live on the island at the time our families had property there?

Hi Audrey, I will try and find a number for you and will send to you in a private message. Yes I lived here back then and even lived in the Casa Solana house for a few years. Lots of great history.
