We just returned from Belize yesterday. We stayed at Xanadu while we were on Ambergris Caye. I didn't see Caribe Island, so I can't comment on it - I'm sure the other posters have good info. smile

Xanadu was a great place to stay. We had condo #1, which was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit right on the beach. Our kids (aged 7 and 10) loved it!!! It was air-conditioned with cable TV. There were lots of other kids while we were there, so ours had plenty of playmates. A few things I really liked about Xanadu:
- The pool is near the beach, so you can keep an eye on both kids if one wants the pool and the other wants the beach.
- There is a convenience store within easy walking distance, so you don't have to go to town for bread, milk, eggs, etc. The prices weren't cheap (like convenience stores at home), but I didn't think they were outrageous either. I don't think they were more expensive than the big grocery store in town.
- The kitchens were full-sized, and nicely supplied with utensils, plates, pans, etc.
- Ambergris Divers was located just down the beach.

We will definately stay at Xanadu the next time we go to Ambergris. However, from what I have read on this board, it seems to be hard to make a wrong choice no matter which place you choose! cool

Oops! Forgot about Jaguar Paw vs. Windy Hill.

We stayed at Pook's Hill before arriving at Xanadu. We went cave tubing at Jaguar Paw and saw the restaurant, but not the rooms. Jaguar Paw is located on beautiful grounds and has a "junglely" feel. It is located near Belmopan.

We saw Windy Hill as we sped by on the way to Tikal. It is located right off the highway, and seems more like a traditional hotel. I believe it costs less than Jaguar Paw.

In my opinion, if you're going to travel all the way to Belize, you might as go for it, and spend your time in the jungle. You may want to also check out Pook's Hill. It is located near Belmopan, and has a similar feel to Jaguar Paw, but is less pricey. Its cabanas are not air-conditioned, but depending on the time of year you go, A/C is not necessary.

Caribe Island Resort would be a very good place for your family to stay! We also had a GRAND time there this past summer! smile Lots and lots for the kids to do, and nothing for the partents to do if you want that as well. cool

Hope
