Hello everyone! laugh

I will be returning to AC in about 3 weeks from now. The group I am going with want to do the Mayan ruin tours.

Here are some questions...

What should I bring for these type tours? Can I wear sandles or do y'all recommend bringing sneakers as well?

Do we go through the jungle, and if so, is bug repellent necessary?

Any other advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y'all for your time.

Sincerely,
JohnnyK.

I never brought anything!!! Just myself and a jacket, I get cold easily. It depends which one you do. Al Tun Ha, no, just shorts and sandels or tennis shoes. Never did Lamanai, but I think the same thing will work.

Email Sandy at Searious Adventures:

Ask her about group pricing also.

Lamanai is more "jungly" than Altun Ha and the last time I was there, the critters were fierce so defintely take along some repellent. Tennis shoes would be more appropriate than Tevas too.

Altun Ha you could get by with sandals, but I definately recommend at least tennis shoes at Lamani... BUG SPRAY A MUST AT BOTH.
I would also recommend taking some sort of light jacket as the ride in the boat back can sometimes be a little bit chilly and the weather can change on you and it can start raining on the way back. I know this from experience ; )

Very good advice above. Lamanai is located on the banks of a river and in a rainforest. Guess why they call it a rainforest... right! Closed in shoes and waterproof if possible. Bug spray with deet a necessity.

Have a fun time.

 Can you wear shorts or should you wear windgear? I've been reading that you should wear long pants, long sleeved tees, etc. to not be consummed by airborne predators. I've done the Mexican ruins before and never took any precautions - is Belize more buggy frown Thanks!

I would personally bring/wear long pants which cover ankles, sneakers, socks, bug repellent and bandana to cover neck or nose. The bugs can be quite bad, depending on wind, heat and weather in general. Best to be prepared. GEtting "chewed up" by the critters is not pleasant. frown shocked

Thank you everyone for your input.

I think I'll advise my group to goto the Alta Hun (Sp?) tour and tell them that sandles/sneakers are proper attire.

-- I don't want to wear a bandana to cover my face from the bugs on the other tour! sounds quite frightening [with all the bug stories]! :p

Again, thank you everyone for your help. I can plan on packing light too with no additonal pants or long sleeve shirts. laugh

Hope everyone has a great weekend! eek wink smile cool

Cheers. JohnnyK.

I've booked my Lamanai tour - long pants in paradise? eek NO JOKE? Glad I read this, I hadn't even thought of packing long pants.
