Turnbun, how did it turn out to be a scam? And how did it go from $200 to $700? Still and all, if you are getting any week you want at Banyan Bay for $700, that's still a good deal.

So, what happened? And of course, you've put in a report on them on Ebay so that other buyers can read what you had to say?

Stayed here in Nov. We loved it. Very pleased. Easy walk to town (Shorter if you walk along the water instead of streets). The deluxe units have central air. Some of the standard units have window a/c units. Very clean and everything you need. :p

Ok, here's the scoop on the e-bay deal(hopefully, I'll be able to make it short and succinct):

I bought the trip (7 night stay at a "luxury condominium" off E-bay from "A." The ad said that A will send me a certificate that I, in turn, must send in to the travel company they use in order to redeem the trip/make reservations. A sends me the certificate. The certificate has to be filled out and sent to "B." I do this. B sends me a letter saying they need "partial payment/booking fee" of $200 when I send in my request for reservations. On the back of the letter is a list of destinations they have available. Guess what? Belize isn't even on the list! I e-mailed B (who does not have a phone number on their letter head or their website), and they told me that they do not have accommodations in Belize and that I should contact A about this. I contact A and tell her I want a refund. A replies saying B is not who is doing this trip, it's "C" and that the $200 is a refundable deposit (not according to B, it's not). So I write her back and ask "then why is B involved at all if C is your contact for a trip to Belize? Please explain to me, step by step, how this process works." No reply from A. I sent her a certified letter today demanding a full refund.

Even if I could get the accommodations through this for $700, that is not what was advertised, and I refuse to go along with what is obviously some sort of scam.

That's the story in a nutshell. I will tell you who A is and write a negative review on E-bay as soon as I get my money back (or it becomes clear I will not be getting my money back).

Have not stayed there, but have seen the rooms and know the people who are running the place. Don and Carol are wonderful and will treat you like family. Hope you decide to stay there. smile

Anybody know Don and Carol's last name? Also do they own Playador? Just the Crazy Canuk's Bar?

Turnbun: Wow! I don't think you should wait to post your negative response on Ebay. What if there are others going through this with the same seller but different travel locations? You could be helping them today and also, it might get a quicker response. Also, isn't there a way to file a complaint with Ebay-proper and/or Paypal?

I am going to file a fraud complaint with E-bay. If we don't get a refund from the person by Friday, I'll dispute it on my credit card. PayPal does not allow any disputes, and if you dispute it on your credit card, you are banned from using PayPal.

I would complain to ebay now, let them know what is going on. They took over paypal, so let them know you don't want to resort to disputing the credit charge, but you will if they don't step in. They don't want to lose a good customer due to misrepresentation by a seller.
