We are heading to AC August 9-16. I'm told that this is not the season for sea lice. Is this true, or should we bring along some Safe Sea?

Also, does anyone know of a tour or tour operator that takes snorkelers to Turneffe or one of the other Atolls from AC? Or is that too far for a day trip?

Thanks.

Leave the Safe Sea at home. I got the last of the Pica Pica the first of June and that was a remant that was hanging on a nasty looking mooring buoy line I new better than to touch on a safety stop (scuba diving) but I did anyway.

Those guys are gone. Look at the main page of the board under goods & services under diving and check a few of the dive operators home pages. Some have pricing for snorkelers to Turneffe or you could e-mail them. Pretty sure Amigos Del Mar does.

I was in SP until the end of June and I still got some pica-pica and so did some kids I know. It could very well be gone by now but just a tip - a lot of the local guides and such lather up in baby oil before they go in the water so the pica-pica just slide right off! smile
You could also try Aqua Dives for Turneffe.

If you want to go to the Atolls, go with Amigos del Mar. They have a beautiful Pro48, very comfy with a good head. I've been out there on other boats, but this was definitely the way to go.

Are there any snorkelers out there who have done an Atolls trip? I'm wondering what the day consists of and if you can snorkel to a beach ... or is the boat your base for the entire day?

Yes, I think you can snorkel - my mom has before, just let them know when you book....Seashell - should be okay? I haven't been with Amigos.

Yeah, my daughter got a touch of pica pica the end of June, too. Not too bad though, after she "showered" with vinegar.
