Last week my husband and I were on a Norwegian
Cruise Line that ported in BC. We took the day
trip to AC, Reef and Shark Ray Alley. We were
with a group of friends and were so excited that
we could show off AC and SP to our friends.
We have been to AC/SP numerous times staying
at Caribbean Villas with Will and Susan.
There were 4 cruise ships in port that day. The speedboat picked us up from the ship and we
went to the reef. What we found there was very
distressing to us. The number of boats and
people on the reef was ridiculous. The boats
anchored on the reef. Our boat alone broke
anchor twice. That means that coral was broken
twice. So sad. We mentioned our concerns to
the boat crew (all of which were from the main-
land) about the damage being done to the reef.
NO CONCERN.
When we returned to the ship, we went directly
to the shore excursions desk and voiced our
dismay about the trip and the practices of the
boats. NO CONCERN.

Does anyone patrol the reef to watch for these
type of infractions? Can something be done to
stop this type of abuse of the reef? We were so
upset the the rest of our cruise was terrible.
We will never go on another cruise again.

I just wanted to vent my frustrations. Pardon my
rambling.
By the way, we rented bikes and showed our friends
around SP. They loved it just like I knew they
would.

With that said, you seem to understand why so many can't tolerate cruise ships or cruisers.

That's what cruisers do to an area, they just cruise in, throw out the cash and leave the trash, they disrupt the surroundings and then they leave...

I've seen it far to many times, to bad it's happening these days. I like other destinations in the region, some of those are getting hammered with cruisers as well.

First time I went to Roatan 12/13 years ago no cruise boats that I was aware of. But they are showing up there as well. I've found a new place to hang out these days, the cruisers have NOT been there yet, but I suspect they will find the place in 5/8/10 years but ya never know? I would be shocked if it were anytime sooner than that...

Down with cruisers...

Idaho will you share? We promise not to tell any cruise lines or TV shows.

that is, until the next major quake on the San Andreas fault realigns the CA/Or/Wa to the equal status of Hol Chan - then look out!

( and yes, I knew that - The Port of Lewiston allows the exportation of millions of bushels of grain down the Snake and Columbia Rivers for overseas shipment)

Although I've never traveled there, I have some friends that swear Nevis, West Indies is the best "undisclosed" location in the Caribbean.
Anyway, the typical reaction to overcrowding is finding your "happy place" and enjoying.

I wonder how the diving is around the Pearl Islands, Panama. It sure looks like a pretty area.

I don't belize that Nevis has a deep water port, so it's not a port of call for the cruise lines.
