KathyA...I thought about the vacuum problem when purchasing the bags...however I was pleased to see that the ones I purchased were the roll up ones (funny if you thought I'd be so exhausted by using a vacuum...roling them up is quite a chore but they do take up only half the room) They are great and have a one way relese valve much like the reverse of those swimmies you blow up and have the safety valve to prevent the air from getting out, whereas the bags keep further air from getting in after you roll it all out. I got mine in god ole Walmart in the luggage section for about $17 US. They are great laugh

Thanks Mobunny....didn't want to unpack those bags until we arrive wink How did your clothes fare...were they wrinkled?

Just remember that you may save space, but the more you take with you, the more your bags will weigh and overweight luggage is pricey nowadays.

Goody, Just got back Sunday from 9 days. Jean took a check on as well as I did. Each of us took a carry on. Next time we decided only to take the carry on, one each. That's all you need. At least 2 maybe 3 bathing suits, some t shirts and such. Go have fun. What ever you packed, take half out. Enjoy, enjoy.

Danny & Bill B....I really appreciate the info. While packing I did think about not needing as much as one may think. My stuff is all compressed...have a feeling I am still bringing too much as most of us do...and believe me these bags really do consolidate everything!! Hoping to have room enough to pack up snacks & food to save on some expenses. We'll be there 13 days and the last thing I want to be doing is laundry wink & cooking but having the snacks and a few food items will save alot having two teenagers along  Anyway...thanks all for your informative & often witty responses...3 more days until paradise laugh

She will need to learn from her own experience.

When you pack to go HOME... frown , leave behind all that you didn't use. That way, you won't take it again. ( if you use it all, you spent too much time changing clothes )

My suitcases for our first 'One' week were 2 large, 2 carry on.
Now, for more than 3 weeks, one mid size, 2 small carry ons. Mid size is for a few clothes, snackies and giveaways laugh

They do your laudry, not you smile

NY Gal...from one NY'er to another laugh I really see what you're saying...since our honeymoon in Jamaica and the bellhop that met us asking us " are you moving here" as he wheeled our new 7 piece luggage set to our room....I've cut down on the packing considerably smile How many people are in your family...just wanna get a sense of how many you're packing up into one medium and 2 carry ons wink I'm seriously debating on whether I should open up my already compressed bags eek

2, and we wear clothes and eat too smile
So take it from there.

We also took many books this trip, for ourselves and to share.

You just don't NEED all that, you want smile

Don't go to impress anyone, you're on VACATION smile

NY Gal.... laugh laugh laugh laugh what a great sense of humor you've got wink So if I bring 2 medium suitcases and 3 carry ons we should be about right if we're 4? That's about what we've got...only we're also bringing 1 bag of our snorkeling stuff and some fishing poles for hubby. We should make it on mayan air that way, right?
