Jambel's has also opened up a new place in the swanky new Coral Beach Hotel on Front St. Atmosphere is much more refined (A/C, etc) than the original (which is still there too.) Didn't make it there this trip but have eaten there before and it is great! Best Caye Lime pie!!!

Everyone has their favorites, and tastes in food vary, just like mileage, but I'd make these comments:

* Jade Garden is not one of the hot spots, but since I've been going there (13 years or so), it's been dependably good to excellent, and quite a few locals go there regularly.

* Before Wil Lala sold Caribbean Villas, he said that in the past year or so the consensus favorite restaurant of his guests was, perhaps surprisingly, Blue Water Grill.

* It's hard to go wrong with the tried-and-true established places, like Elvi's (touristy, yes, but still good), Ruby's for a quick breakfast, the original JamBel Jerk, La Popular for baked stuff, most of the street vendors.

* I've never had a bad meal at any of the above, plus Sweet Basil, Capricorn, Papi's, Caliente, among others.

so many places and so little time...we didn't get to try many of the ones that have been mentioned...

but i'm not surprised the blue water grill is often cited as a favourite...we had an excellent meal there one evening...it's a very classy place and if you have a table at the ocean edge especially...it doesn't get much better than this for atmosphere!
