I wondering when making a reservation at Ramon's Village are the guests required to Fax their reservation to the main office in Laurel Mississppi or is that the job of the receptionist?
Summer 2003 in Belize, I usually vacation in inland Belize first, then vacation in San Pedro last that way I have an easy way to the international airport without any problem. Although, I have stayed at several hotels, and including Ramon's Village Resort, I have never had a problem, until this past summer. This is concerning Ramon's Village Resort lack of concern and accommodation. The week of July 7-12 I made a reservation at Ramon's Village by telephone from inland Belize. On making the reservation I did not appreciate the line of questioning from David the receptionist on whether or not I pay in cash/Belize dollars, Belize creditcard or an American creditcard. It made me feel uncomfortable as if I could not afford to stay at Ramon's Village if I did not have an American creditcard. So to make the reservation I had to give him my American creditcard, however I did not see the reason why I could not pay in Belize dollars or creditcard since that is the country's money. Anyway, after making the reservation he told me that I need to Fax the reservation to Laurel Mississippi, which I thought was very inconvenient for me because I am use to the hotel/resort handling all my accommodation. Plus, I am on vacation and I do not carry/have a fax machine with me.
I made the reservation and was planning to go to San Pedro not knowing it was around the same time a tropical storm was heading to the North of Belize. Tropical Storm Claudette was heading towards the Yucatan and would affect Northern Belize. During that week people I know in San Pedro and everyone I had some arrangement or plan with notified me of the weather condition in San Pedro and suggested I do not go there until its safe. Yet, Ramon's Village did not notified me. It made me wondered, if I did not obtain other information about the Tropical Storm, and I did not no better I would have arrived at an evaucated resort. Fortunately, I was notified by Tropic Air and the Belize Weather Information, and others. I must commend Tropic Air for continuously informing me of the weather and flight schedules. In fact, they were the first to inform me that they were evaucating the island. At that time, I knew I was not going to San Pedro, but I was waiting for Ramon's Village to notify me, but they did not. I then call Ramon's Village and got a different receptionist, she told me that they were evaucating the island and they are sending their guests to Belize City. She checked my reservation, but could not explain why they did not notified me. The point is as a guest staying at Ramon's Village or any other hotel/resort the safety of the guests is important, whether we have arrived or on our way,its the hotel/resort, responsibility to notified their guests in case of an emergency in this case a Tropical Storm/Hurricane. There is no excuse why Ramon's Village could not notified me.
In addition, I would like to address the issue concerning paying in Belize dollars or creditcard in Belize. I did not agree with David the receptionist who said that Ramon's Village only accept American creditcards, this means it limits Belizean guests to stay at Ramon's Village Resort. In other words, Belizeans who can afford to stay at Ramon's Village cannot do so, much less use the Belize money if they would like to enjoy a resort like Ramon's Village. After doing some research on Belize, the hotels/resorts and other businesses in Belize do expect and accept the Belize money. It would be ashame if the Belizeans cannot spent their own money to enjoy the lifestyle in their country.
While I am in Belize I spend Belize dollars, because its so much fun using the country's money.
I would appreciate any input on this matter. Thanks...
