Update on Budwieser vs Belikin
I decided at the last minute to give into my hubby's whining and packed a case of Bud.
When we arrived at customs I think they smelled it!!!!! We were asked to stop and have our bags checked as Windjammer breezed on through.
They picked my suitcase and the small case with the Bud in it, of course. Thompson in customs asked me what was in my bag and I told him "my clothes" he promptly check it - it was ok.
Next he asked me what was in the other bag and I told him canned food and a case of beer. Bingo!
He told me he was going to have to take it as he explained that you could only bring 1 liter of alcohol into the country. Being naive to the rules I asked "We'll can we take that much beer with us?".
He then explained the 1 liter does not include beer because it interferes with the sale of their beer therefore it is not allowed.
Hubby's face was very

I politely asked Thompson "Well can we pick it up on our way back?"
And he said it was not their normal procedure, but since it was my first visit he would save it.
I had my doubts when the other officer he handed it to beamed of delight and joy. You could just see the words PARTY WITH THE GOOD BEER flashing in his eyes.
Hubby choked down his first Belikin at Jet's.
We arrived to our room at Banana Beach with ice cold Belikin waiting in the frig.
Hubby choked down another Belikin
He didn't like it. (This was on Friday).
He tried to buy a Bud next door at the Squirels Nest, but flipped out when he found out it was $8 BLZ.
Saturday passed with him trying to subsitute the Bud with Crown and coke and Red Stripe, it was ok but expensive. He found one bar with Bud displayed as if for sale. They informed him they didn't have any Bud because they could no longer import it. That night I felt sorry for him and went next door the Squirels Nest determined to buy all the Bud they had at $8 BLZ so he wouldn't be so grumpy. (I know, I'm an angel  )
They had one - fresh dated June 2003!
Hubby said it was the best stale Bud he had ever had!!!!!
Next day we head over to BC's for the Sunday BBQ.
Someone order a strange new Belikin in a plastic bottle. It was called "Belikin Draft". "Draft in a bottle?" everyone exclaimed
"This is new" all the seasoned Belikin drinkers said as all of our interest was peeked.
Pam broke down and bought one and passed it around. And to my hubby surprise, this was a very good subsitute for Bud.
It was a Sunday BBQ at BC's miracle!!!!!!!!!
We checked a few more bars thoughout the day - they had never heard of it.
Bright and early Monday morning we hopped on our bikes and headed for the distributers!
EUREKA!!!!! That had cases of it and apparently it's only been on the market for a few months.
The cost per case was $46 BLZ!!!!
Hubby was very happy the remainder of trip. He carried his cooler full of Belikin Draft with him wherever he went.
He was Belikin's best Belikin Draft Salesman wherever he went. He peeked the interest of a lot of bartenders.
So all of you diehard Bud drinkers - you do have a good subsitute for regular Belikin!!!!
And..........amazingly Thompson, in customs, saved his case of Bud and returned it to him when we left!
