CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON ON THE PROPERTY SOUTH SIDE OF VICTORIA HOUSE. WAS DOWN THERE JULY 11 TO 19. RUMOR HAS IT THERE ARE 50 HUTS GOING IN SO THE OWNERS CAN HAVE A CASINO LISCENCE. GOING TO BUS OR BOAT IN PEOPLE TO GAMBLE. TELL ME THIS ISNT SO.

That's the rumour. Obviously they won't be busing people since we're on an island but the rest could be true... maybe.

unfortunatly, it is true. I live next door. The development is called Royal Caribean Resort (somewhat ambitious name if you see the structures). Several acres have already been bulldozed out. The owner has told us they have plans for 2 resturants and a casino in the development.

I just wonder how they got a permit to build this. But I guess just like in the states, "Money talks"....Just IMHO.....

lovey and thurston, WOW, that will be a major change in that area. Since you live so close, how do you two feel about it?

John Boy, everyone wonders that. Everglades, we're not exactly thrilled but not much we can do about it. The structures are wood and thatch, which is kind of a fire hazard to boot. The developer I think is planning on charter flights from Europe and Isreal. It's all a bit strange.Guess the thing that bothers me the most is having all the bush bulldozed down. Sure we'll see a lot less birds in the area.

lovey and thurston, I can appreciate how you feel, I know it would bother me as well. Having stayed at the VH, I'm familar with the area. Progress can sure have its downside.

The only upside I can possilby see ay this time is maybe a drop in the number of mosquitos with brush removal.
There certainly is alot of building going on and wonder just how everybobdy will survive noe that the pie is being cut smaller and smaller all the time.
Is this really a good thing for the Island or is this too much of a good thing, therefore not making it a good thing anymore.

We were there 1 week ago and I thought they were
some type of Gov't housing.

Since we can't do much about it, we have decided we just have to change the way we look at it! To date it has been the source of a good deal of humor!(The only way you live in Belize!) Pizza ovens, Dfs housing, Hattieville South, and Hotel-6 are just a few of the names it's been dubbed so far. Let's just hope they invest in lots and lots of landscaping.
