Oh I dunno Bill. This thread seems to be getting more interesting all the time.

Now I'm quite curious to know, just who are these regular members that "like to show off their expertise even though they haven't ever been there."?

I would agree that this is not the normal topic that one would find on a tourism oriented board, but this section is titled "About Ambergris Caye" and some of the questions kippe asked (not 5,6,7 or 8) are specifically about a facet of life in San Pedro. Maybe people would be interested in the answers, maybe not.....Like I said in my original reply to kippe's post, I am interested in the answer to #9. I frequent this board in order to learn about the Island since we will be coming down in October.

I am an irregular member with no expertise in anything.

Since the availability of medical services in Belize is probably of interest to tourists planing to visit, I will offer my comments ( "show off my expetise" ) as one who holds Belize residency but does not live there full time, I think of myself as an extended tourist.

There are numerous Belizeans practicing medicine in Belize and the quality of services has me pleasantly surprized. My dermatologist, Dr. Bradley, studied in Guatamala. My fishing friend, Dr. Lizeraga a surgeon studied in Jamaica and is a principal in Medical Associates. Dr. Huesner DDS, studied oral surgery at Marquette, just to mention a few. Cuba donates full medical scholorships, 10 to 12 a year, to Belizeans with the stipulation that they return and practice in Belize for a number of years donating much of their services.

Now as to the lawyers and legal services part, I will defer to Skinny's soon to be acquired expertise.

I believe this thread serves a useful purpose by highlighting the issue of arbitrarily deleting posts based on arbitrary criteria by meaningless thought processes. Let's face it, server administration is neither rocket science nor does this authorization elevate or delineate mental acumen. I believe there is adequate evidence of that theory on this board. To self-illustrate my hypothesis, I recently adopted this arbitrary philosophy by responding to posts to sustain a discussion chain, then surgically deleting my posts to see how dramatically I can alter the context of the thread. Try it, it's pretty cool, and it doesn't require any skills at all. Seashell appears to be unusually paranoid, but she did seem surprised that Belize is comprised of islands.

I am a firm believer in "when in Rome"... and I do, despite what some may think of me, tailor my comments and words accordingly, even though many of my postings are poor attempts at humor. I have on rare occaisions tried to be astute regarding my postings. I am more suited for poor attempts at humor... eek

I'll agree that I was a bit taken back mildly when kippe made the first posting on this subject. I think I even mentioned this a ways back. HOWEVER, now that kippe elaborated on her original posting, it makes sense to me. I am not trying to land on either side of this posting..,. just my own comment.

Is her posting germaine to the board...shrug... that's a personal call. I feel as though, looking back to when this section was created by Marty at the suggestion of Sweetjane (where are you by the way Jane) It's purpose was for the regulars to chat, discuss or whatever else was on their minds, and NOT to discuss indept particulars about Belize or AC in particular. There are other sections for this... however from time to time, subject matter has crept into this section... and guess what folks? In the entire realm of things to worry about in present day Earth... it all means pretty much "nothing"

Too many people get totally immersed in the subject matter... too involved, too wrapped up in... a few need to ponder before answering sometimes. (me included).

Are you getting borerd with my writing yet in this post? I could go on for hours writing things here... you can read what I write or not... the choice is yours, the ultimate decision lies with Marty...

The people with whom this posting is intended will understand it and appreciate it... those that it is not intended for... will sit back and think "what the hell is he talking about"...

Which are you? eek

I was put back by the "environmental" assertion on Lan's Resort Posting regarding Caye Chapal. Most all of Ambergris and Corker have been environmentally alterred for the purpose of habitation. Most of it had been "swampy". An owned island alterred for a golf resort is in my opinion the owners perrogative. I have been to Caye Chapal and its a beautiful place. Great care has obviously been made to accomodate environmental issues. It is a very nice place to be and beautiful golf course. With regards to the above posted questions; the answers can be easily be found with a telephone. I apologize for my previous course manner. PS. Don't haf the time to spell check...its off to the golf course for me.

Lawyers, guns, money and medicine. That's what it's all about.

This thread has been a most excellent exercise in message board participation and the quality of information one should expect from such a source.

It's also proved the value of the price of admission. wink
