The departure tax is being collected as a part of the airline's ticketing process. No longer being collected in cash during departure.

CHOOCHOO~
We flying in on American also, ff miles, my taxes are only $65 and we got these tickets last May. Do you think we'll still have to pay the departure tax upon leaving?
Thanks

CLL,

Probably will have to pay it. We paid it in cash last March, but not in June or November, it was in the tickets. Maybe you'll get lucky, there aren't a lot of 8-9 month old tickets floating around out there.

I spoke with a representative from American Airlines Last Thursday night and was informed that the departure tax is NOT included...I find this very odd, I was last in Belize in October 2004 and I did have to pay departure tax to American Airlines but my parents who left the day after me did not.....Smells kind of fishy to me!!!!

I also just booked a flight to Belize, so I called AA back & they told me the departure tax
(20 U.S. dollars) was NOT included....But I think Capt Jeff has a great idea..... laugh

AA is wrong. The old departure tax was $20 now it is $35.

atomicindy, that is correct. I have found that the airline reservation departments are a bit in the dark on this, and really give suspect information. Barb Kater (Barb's Belize) posted a little ditty a few weeks back that showed how to read your taxing authorities and the amounts as posted on your voucher. However, it was a bit complicated for this old Wolverine educated Hoosier boy and I threw in the towel.

All I know is that in March '04 we paid it in cash at departure (USAIR), in June '04 I had 17 tickets and it was paid on all those tickets (USAIR), in November we had six couples (a mix of AA and USAIR) and it was included in those tickets with both airlines. It is now $35 since, I believe, the first of June '04.

It is my understanding that the servicing airlines had finally made the arrangements with the Belizean authorities to collect the departure tax in the ticket cost and remit to the BZ government much like they do in most destinations that have such taxes.
