Your biggest threat will come from heartworm, ticks and associated tick fever. Make sure your pet receives medicine for both on a regular basis. Other than that taxis are the biggest threat, we've never had a dog in the clinic due to snake bites and the only way a croc will get your dog is if you let it swim in the lagoons or let it roam loose (not cool).

We live in NW Wisco as of now & we have the deer tick that carries Lyme's & the basic wood tick & now we have the concern of West Nile. It's getting where it's not even a Dog's World anymore. lol ..... Thanks everyone for the insight. (7 days & counting).........

OK...gonna take a chance here...

Knowing that a temporary band-aid is all that we might be offering...my wife works for a vet here in the states. Is there any contact that would let us know if any meds would be helpful. We recall from last visit that there were many strays, but offering some additional meds for the local doc may be a gift that we can feel good about. Let me know....and thanks in advance.

Thanks Chas,

Just got off the phone w/ my wife and she will be sweating the doc to get some gear together. Making her re-think the doc track after the kids are grown. Being a doc down there would be pretty sad, but awesome. Can't wait to get there.

Chas,

Nice to see another Charlestonian on the boards. My family is still there although we now live in Dallas. Where do you teach? We know professors at MUSC and the Charleston School of Law. Also lovely to see another dog lover around.
