No thoughts on Costa Rica, never been down there. Sorry.
Been there, done that, the washing machine ate the T-shirt

I was contemplating a dive trip to the blue hole while on AC but hearing from other people who have done the trip I think I will save that for another visit to AC and instead this time I will do a couple local dives and perhaps a night dive. I have never done a night dive, so that will be a new experience for me.

Definately go for the night dive - it might be a bit crowded but Hol Chan looks so different at night and you see hundreds of sleepy rays, nurse sharks a few big lobsters and some nasty moray eels!!

just an addition - the Blue Hole with ADM was great - peeing down with rain early in the morning but brightened up quickly - great lunch and visit to the Booby Birds! Bit of a booze cruise home (nothing to out of hand for an 11 year old)though! Enjoy your trip!

When conditions are calm a night dive outside the reef is superb for people who've done night dives before.

If a person does end up on Halfmoon Caye and visits the Booby birds, don't be afraid to make a right, instead of a left to get yourself back to the dock area.
You won't be sorry.

Halfmoon Caye is almost worth the trip all by itself, in my opinion.

Agreed but wow, is it getting pricey.

Speaking of night dives at Hol Chan... I snapped a night photo of a sealife that no one seems to know. The animal? was about 12-16" tall and rose like a small elephant's trunk right up from the coral. It was soft and swayed in the currents. The base had about 5" circumference and tapered to maybe 3" at top. It had circumferential rings of both a light tan and a darker brown and the appearence of muted stripes running lenthwise. The top end which appeared to be feeding was flared with small 'fingers' I ve seen many anemones which this may be but was wondering if anyone else has seen or knows the identity. The channel night dive also boasted a 15" grouper that was so friendly it would come and stare directly into our masks almost making a nuisance of himself. Is it still there I hope?

Half Moon Caye has doubled from US$5 to US$10. It's the new charge at the BH (US$30) that's crippling.
