I did not make any proposal for the lagoon. If you are refering to deadserious's one, I am against putting anything on the water anywhere.

And where would that be? Pedros? I don't know of any other poker on the island. And that's not really what I would call a poker room.

But we are not arguing the business sense behind such a venture, only the economic, environmental and esthetic impact of it. It's up to the business owner to decide the actual feasability of the venture as it's his money at risk.

Your argument goes both ways. Where does the protectionism end? Should we rid ourselves of all business on piers? How about all piers themselves? Airplanes sure are noisy, how about limiting travel to boat? Oh wait, we just rid ourselves of all piers... Perhaps we should flatten back street to replace all mangroves that were removed to build San Pedro town?

See, I can be just as silly.

Reapers examples are extreme, but I don't think they are silly. Much of what is happening on AC today would have been considered extreme 40 years ago. The question is not where does protectionism end, but where does protectionism start?

Do you have any limits, deadserious, on what should be allowed on or over the water?

I've changed my mind about buying property on the island, now I'm going to buy a big ass barge and build a house on it and plant it right in front of Central Park.

Shouldn't be any problems with that. I mean a precedent is being set isn't it?

OK, simon. Just for the sake of discussion, what is the difference between what you are suggesting and someone living on a sailboat in front of the island? Interesting, no?

Being serious, I only point that out to illustrate the need for guidlines. I just don't feel there are enough that controls what development happens.

I absolutely cannot believe they are thinking about putting a casino boat near/on Ambergris!!!! All you have to do is look at the pictures of devastation from Hurricane Katrina and what the HUGE barge casinos did to Biloxi!!!! Unbelieveable. I hope and pray that this will not happen as I love AC and have been many times. Good luck at the meeting today and keep us posted.....

Provided that the environmental impact has been deemed minimal... and the economic benefit has been documented... and that whomever is developing on or over the water obtains all required licenses and permits... and if it is to be attached to land, then has permission of the land owner or otherwise an easement on such land...

then I have no limits to what should be allowed on or over the water.

Biloxi was nothing before those barge casinos came to town. It put it on the map and are the largest supplier of jobs to the area.

But regardless, you are talking about two differnt things here. Biloxi has perminant barge casinos. This is a 3 story casino boat that be moved as necessary.
