It is a shame. Whether the fault lies with management or owners, or both, the end result is the same -- shooting oneself in the foot.

I'm soon going to be updating one of the Belize guidebooks I do, and unless the situation is resolved probably will have to leave out White Sands Cove. Other writers may do the same thing, because you can't list a hotel that doesn't take reservations. TripAdvisor and other online sources don't have the same issue, but as with a couple of other condotels that have gone through this kind of thing, the impact lingers for a long time, sometimes for years.

I'm concerned about this visitors recourse-refunds and rebooking. Whoever processed your charge will have to be held accountable for your refund and slapped for not notifying you about the situation at WSC and offering assistance for an alternative booking. Situations like this reflect horribly on us all. I would notify www.travelbelize.org and take it all the way til you are satisfied. This is an aberration rather than the norm.

I was there last Wednesday and there were two rentals there (not owners but rentals). The bartender told me they only had three total condos that were for rent. If you have a reservation I would call and email. They may very well still be honoring the reservations. We ate at the restaurant and my little one used the pool. It was very slow. Hopefully they will still honor your reservation! If not they have some new cabanas right next door that are very nice and very inexpensive under $125 a night in high season. I forget the name but I am sure someone knows.

I'll book you anywhere you want to stay less my commission. Contact your credit card company to stop payment. If neither side of this dispute has made the effort to contact you or reply to your emails to discuss the issues or your options, I would not stay there. Plenty of other wonderful places to stay who will make you welcomed and want your biz.

Sarah - the place right next door (immediately north of WSC) is Cocotal Inn and Cabanas. I stayed there on my honeymoon, this past September / October in the beachfront cabana. Extremely nice accommodations, extremely nice owner, and extremely nice on-site management. It's a very small property, with no bar or restaurant, but when I was there, they would make you a great homemade meal for $10US/person. They even cooked up the fish that we caught on our fishing trip for us for free. It's a great little place, and if anyone stops by there, tell Beaulah that Charlie and Beth say hi, and thanks for helping arrange our renewal of our vows.

We originally were booked at WSC, but a very similar thing happened to us. 5 weeks before we were scheduled to arrive, we were informed by Marilyn that they had to close the resort, and would not be able to honor our reservations, due to a 'family emergency'. We never ended up finding out what happened (not that it matters), but our money was refunded in full, and Marilyn was very apologetic about it, and almost sounded defeated. Maybe this dispute between ownership and management has been going on for quite some time....

That's it! Cocotal Inn. It is adorable and I was told very inexpensive. Since they don't have a restaurant you can walk down just a little ways and eat at Capricorn (my favorite restaurant on the island!!!!!). Capricorn is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are also a couple of other places within walking distance that you could eat.
