As I have discovered there are those who have never ridden out a storm that will want to stay, then there are those who have ridden out a minor storm and will want to stay. However in my experience it is very hard to find anyone who has ridden out a major storm in a low lying area that will willingly want to stay.
In my opinion, no posession on the planet is worth a life. Leave for the storm and then fight your way back in, that is my M.O. these days.
One other thought to ponder for some. For friends and families the most important possession you can offer to them is yourself. In the event of your death, most families desperately want at a minimum the body of a loved one returned for a proper burial and to bring closure to the family. Right now, I believe the number stands at 27 bodies which have not been recoverd after hurricane Ike that were lost to the sea. Every now and again you see a story about them finding some part of an Ike victim (18 months later, a categorty two storm when it made landfall) and the closure it will finally provide for someones family.
My advice is to insure it well and pay the sky high insurance premium and let it ride, heck technology for everything you own will have probably improved so you end up coming out ahead in the end.....
