Yes, the bridge is buckling under the constant pressure of trucks and taxi cabs. Wonder if there will be funds to repair it? It's only one lane at this point.......

I stopped yesterday to take a closer look at the grates which caused one lane of the bridge to be closed. This is the second time in the last few weeks that this has happened. Anyway I didn't look real close because the grates would have had to be out of the way for a proper inspection but it looked to me like there was not enough of space for the grates to move a little or expand and this caused the brackets that hold them down to come lose or break. I did not see any structural damage. They are repairing it right now.

Having said that the bridge obviously wasn't designed for some of the loads it has been subject to lately.

How about hand pulled ferries and rope speed bumps? I remember seeing them on a very nice special little island a long time ago. Place was so unique & magical...

The rope speed bump has been replaced with a ramp Evil Knievel could use to vault the river ;-).

Progress can sometimes suck.
I loved that pull ferry. I remember many wonderful Sunday afternoons at the Hammock House, listening to Tim and the guys, looking over the cut... (especially when Debbie was trying to drive over in golf cart!!!!)

Most of us who live north of the bridge fought to save the pull ferry and NOT have a bridge. But we have been told that many San Pedronaen's dream is to DRIVE TO MEXICO.

Last elections promises are just that - LAST - and there will be new ones soon.

I'm regularly told "you can't stop progress." I suppose so, but it sure would be nice to point it in a positive direction

About the bump! I'm very sorry to hear a little girl was hurt. Is that the fault of the 'bump' or the driver?

I understand what drove Jim to build it. One day, as Faith, (how old is she, about 10?) was opening the gate to their house, one of these idiots flew by and came within an inch of hitting her.

I did not make the bump but do know it is made like the bumps on the south end of town.
The town officials have been out and inspected it. There are warning signs posted at the appropriate height and distance. I want speed limit signs posted. I understand it is 15 MPH everywhere on the island. It doesn't take a radar gun to know that this is not observed ANYPLACE on the island.

OH WELL - just another day in paradise and people are NOT HAPPY.

That was the upgrade! Don't you remember the earlier one made of a block of styrofoam?
