We don't need government to CONTROL the local production. Especially the kind of empty suits who are afraid to "open the floodgates on similar and other unique business ventures" (O MY GOD!!! If this isn't an example of a monkey running a zoo I don't know what is.)

Government could collect data about produce being grown and make it available to producers so they could avoid loosing money either when all plant too much of the same crop one time or not enough another time. Also provide no/low interest loans/grants for developing sustainable irrigation systems, education, seeds, etc. - And NOT grant one member of the oligarchy a monopoly on something and prevent anybody else from competing with him.

I seem to recall a business in the UK that was taken to court for selling alcohol (beer) without a licence.
The trial ended quite swiftly after it was pointed out that there were never any sales of alcohol. What in reality happened was that patrons used to rent space and containers, buy malt, hops, barley, brewers yeast, and water. Their mix was then stored in their rented container in their rented space for them until it had turned into beer, and was then bottled for them. There was no exchange of cash whatsoever after the initial purchase and rental.
I wonder if such an enterprise could somehow be massaged into reality in this case?

This could work in a country where law means more than government officials' discretion to do as they please and accommodate their family, friends, cronies, etc. while screwing every other mark. They just expect you to play their silly monkey games and give them the taste of bananas. Their first thought is not how to help an entrepreneur to benefit Belizeans and Belize but - will it hurt our buddies biz and how many bananas can we squeeze this guy for?

No one is stopping anyone from brewing beer so get on with it and like anywhere in the world there are procedures to follow so follow them. Blaming Bowen & Bowen is pretty lame. I don't deny that there maybe regulations in place that might benefit them but they did take the inital risk all those years ago.

T42 why don't you read the thread from the beginning because I can only assume that your telling a lie that "No one is stopping anyone from brewing beer" comes from the ignorance of the facts of this particular case.

As to Bowen taking a big risk starting up a beer business - I think I'm going to cry thinking of the sacrifice he made...

Well that sucks jeff. I hope you guys get the permit sometime soon. yes we need more than the belikin choices for beer. And i agree with dane talk to someone. Mr. Martinez is good Micheal or Kevin Bowen is probably better. Good Luck! And yes that is a ridiculous absurd reason not to give you the permit.

Yaaa sorry , business is not fair or easy. You have to weigh the risk vs reward. If you plan to make a fortune, best stay home (not likely) . Most are here for the lifestyle, please dont burn your bucks and blame my home for it.There are plenty of peeps up there that have failed in biz opportunities and blame that (u.s.)gov. too.Failure breeds success for some, business is tough here and you need to enjoy it to make it work . And that doesn't mean you will be rolling in the dough. Just Happy is that so bad? J.M.O.

AMEN!!! I totally agree with you. If you aren't happy here you won't be happy anywhere. there is corruption everywhere, just more noticeable here i will say to that because we are smaller and they are blatant about it here. will it ever change? yah ok lol you can wait for that one.sometimes power brings greed to the most humble man/woman. Just be happy,
