I haven't looked into this issue with your logo to closely, which sounds like a bunch of bs, but perhaps my best response would be to donate a few bucks? Can I just send a check to the program? I don't see an address for donations on the website. And if you include a pic of Ernie in your new logo I'll kick in a little extra! laugh

Palapa Bob, Be Kind Belize does not actively fund raise. I am lucky enough to have some lovely friends who subsidise prizes such as bicycles and gift certificates for the children and others who help by donating toys, scholastic items and other rewards. I've been lucky enough to have people donate some ink cartridges. Otherwise, I absorb the costs myself. This is purely a voluntary programme and was designed to be supported by practical donations - gifts/prizes - with minimal running costs so that it could be copied and established by anyone, anywhere in the country. Be Kind Belize provides all educational resources and training for free.

I sincerely thank you for being so kind as to want to support Be Kind Belize in this way.

The sort of donations that are very appreciated include:

School and academic materials such as writing books, pencils, erasers, crayons, coloured pens, scissors, glue, rulers, calculators, school bags.
Fun prizes - animal themed, stuffed animals, environmentally friendly toys, deflated footballs (soccer balls), jigsaw puzzles.
Big prizes - sponsorship for bigger prizes such as bicycles and gift certificates from stores.
Office - HP No. 27 Printer cartridges, printing paper, staples.

Please note that all prizes are earned and some are sent to the programme in Cayo.

We've recently had some wonderful sponsors who have sponsored bicycles as prizes too. If you have any questions, you can email me at bekindbelize@gmail.com

Thanks to everyone for their interest, support and input.

BKB - if you change your logo now you will only subject yourself to future headache. It seems as though you have made your decision but imo it is the wrong one. That is one of the most least offensive logos around, and if you cater to ignorant people once, you might as well close up shop. It will never end.

I agree! I am very disappointed at your decision to roll over to an ignorant complainer....one person..

Thank you all for your support and lovely words. The person who started the complaints kicked off others. The attention being paid to the issue was distracting time, attention and energy from the real work that Be Kind Belize is committed to. It's only a logo. The work that Be Kind Belize does within schools is where the focus should and will remain. There is no benefit in tempting controversy, nor is there a need to 'fight' about it. One of the biggest messages that Be Kind Belize tries to teach is empathy, community spirit and that sometimes compromise is important on the smaller issues so that everyone can move forward together. I am confident that the people who have complained have nothing against Be Kind Belize as a concept and feel that this should put the matter to rest. We will be making adjustments to the logo over time as we can, given that this is a voluntary programme.

BKB,

First post and on an unfortunate topic...BKB I work in resource mgt and nowadays primarily PR, public relations. You have a mission statement, you have a logo, you have a decent program going, about everything you need. What most people of your kind and gentle disposition dont have is a thick skin when it comes to people, polite or otherwise, criticizing their efforts, program, even their logo. My suggestion? Be polite, thank them for their suggestions, and ignore them. Buddy these people like nothing more than to be thought of as important and now that youve given them some validation by acknowledging their complaints you've become mired in something other than your mission. Do nothing about your logo (in fact I like the stance "making adjustments...as we can")let it lie and keep doing what you're doing. This will pass; it's background noise, like ringing in your ears that will drive you crazy if you listen for it all the time. Get on with your work...
