I agree with Woz. I am a woman who travels alone a lot and have made good friends whereever I go. Lily's opened at 7:00 AM and I was there at my regular table when Rey or Nellie came in. If another loner came along I would ask if they would like to share my table. If all the tables were taken and two or more people came in I would give up my table for four and move to a smaller table.
Lily's verandah is small enough (5 tables) that everyone there sometimes is in one conversation.
I have to say I really missed not having lobster for my omelets - but come January I will overdose!
I tried Estell's twice as I was up and down the beach way before 7:00. Both mornings the coffee was cold and not good. The only time (in 3 weeks) that I had the trots was after breakfast there.
Just my experience.

Thanks for the reassurance. I am not going to worry anymore about being solo but rather focus on the graet time I am sure to have. At this point I am so excited about the trip it is all I can do to keep myself from starting to pack! I have already, however, moved the suitcase into my bedroom. Couldn't help it!

Much thanks and appreciation
to all who helped out with my
questions

Elly, you go girl! Don't wait on the diving cert. Sure it would have been better to take it at home but you don't have time. So go ahead and take it on your holiday. I wish everyday that I had taken my certification when I first started to think about it, instead of waiting for so long. Just do it!! [Linked Image]

As for the packing, it is never too early to start. Make a list of everything you want to take, figure out how you are going to organize it in your bags, start putting in the stuff that you don't need to use before you go . . . Myself, I never completely unpack anymore. hee hee

Woz, oh, OK. I thought it was my accent. [Linked Image] I don't know anyone with the last name Seashell in Belize. That's a coincidence though, isn't it. Here I am a Canadian, wishing I was in Belize, and I picked the nickname of "seashell" for a message board about Belize while at that same time there is actually a Canadian living in Belize with the name Seashell. Who'd a thunk it?

Um, Woz, by the way, do you think that your friend's last name could actually be spelled "Seechelt" or "Seaschelt" or like the islands?

Elly, here's a start to your checklist for vacation. Check off as many as you can.

The adventure starts as soon as you leave your house. The journey is part of it.

Smile at strangers, especially kids

Keep an open mind.. Eat something you had never considered eating before.

If a dog wags its tail, pat it on the head.

Walk the beach.

Drink at least one Belikin, one Panty Ripper, and maybe a Blue Thingy. One Barrel Rum also.

Enjoy the sea. Walk in it, swim in it, taste it and feel it.

Get up early and listen to the reef, watch the sunrise.

Get your certification, or at least do a resort dive.

Look under rocks and coconut shells, look for any movement or color. Enjoy it.

The locals do their best to make us feel welcome, return the courtesy.

Anyone else, feel free to make additions.

Been there, done that, the washing machine ate the T-shirt

My maternal side just kicked in. Traveling on your own has a lot of plusses. But there are a few precautions you should take.
Don't tell strange men where you are staying. Even if they just casually slip the question into a conversation. Be evasive or lie. Unless you want them banging on your door at 2 O'clock in the morning professing their undying love for you.(I learned this one the hard way)I haven't been to Belize yet, but there are parts of the world where men have this down to a fine art.
Keep walking around at night on your own down to a minimum. Take a taxi.
Not sure about Belize, but in some Central American countries. Instead of wolf whistles the men will hiss as you walk by. Just ignor them. I don't think you'll run into this on the Cayes, but you might on the mainland.
OK, that's it for my maternal side. Go and have a good time. Eat lots of good food.Make lots of new friends. Definatly Dive and snorkel as much as you can.

SEASHELL
That is a coincidence. I can see how my asking if you went to school in Canada, would be a bit of a start.
From what I've been told Seashell is Dutch and when she came over to this part of the world she Americanized her name.

Good advice. Sometimes I can be a little too friendly and trusting (mostly when I am drinking) and forget that not everyone has the best intentions.

Hate the hissing. Experienced this before and would rather be pinched than hear that sound. Creepyyyyyyy!

From what I have heard, I don't think I will have to worry about this on AC. Just hoping that I will be able to meet some nice people to hang out with when I am there.
