The big (and somewhat obvious?) reason is that many of us know each other personally, so a discussion about the political landscape of our country is perfectly normal and a natural extention of conversation we have face to face....

I spent last night with some friends I met via this board..... After asking about Jane, the next question was "who is Jhill anyway?" and then we ate a great meal they showed me their new guns!

We all have the option to discuss what interests us, and ignore what doesn't.... to try and mandate otherwise would sadly mirror the current political climate about which many of us here are voicing our opinions and distaste!

It's rarely rocket science, it's usually just math: then again if you can't do the math.......
