It really gets on my nerves the way some post on this message board are deleted. It seems that if you're not showing off your fat American ass or talking about your next holiday it doesn't mean anything to anyone else and depending on how the administrator feels you might actually see a reply to your messages

i sometimes delete some of my own threads when they are beat.

Because the people that run this board have a financial interest in Ambergris Caye. They dont want anyone hearing the dark side, so they delete what they want. Without tourists, AC would die. So lets not hear about sea grass, dogs, pollution, dead reef, high prices, kids pan-handling...

Ok, I'm totally confused.
Seems like I've read a lot of both positive and negative things on this board recently.

DesertDiver, all the things you mentioned have not only been discussed, but they are STILL here for the reading. What exactly are you talking about?

Marty is the only administrator on this board at present so if you have a complaint about something you wrote being pulled, then email him at marty@casado.net and I'm sure he will explain why he pulled it if in fact he did.

It ain't rocket science.

DesertDiver - please email me direct if you can find the time. I'm looking for a place to vacation with a group and seeing your prior posts and honesty you probably can help me out. Thanks.

The only thread that I am aware of that has been deleted lately is the one started by the man who was trying to expand his debt collection effort to this message board. Many of us, including the moderator, Marty, apparently felt that this was an inappropriate use of the board.
And of course, Prozac Man's spams are routinely deleted, at no small expense of effort by Marty and his helpers.
Your accusation that anything controversial is deleted is inaccurate. There are many intense, strongly worded debates on this board right now, such as (for example) the discussions about animal cruelty, Long Caye, whether there should be a marine preserve. You may wish to read those threads for a brief lesson on how to engage in debate in an adult, civilized manner.
The point is: Nobody is being censored for expressing strong feelings or for discussing a controversial subject.
Even people who are obnoxious, apparently incapable of engage in civilized argument and display evidence of being an asshole online are not deleted. May I point out that your posts are still there?

No, they are not protecting us from terrorists. They are much more interested in finding out if we visit Cuba, smoke dope, or send songs to our friends.
It's HARD to catch international terrorists. It's EASY to catch you and I breaking stupid laws that shouldn't even exist in the first place.

I don't feel it incumbent upon me to censor myself quite that severely, nor do I feel required to dumb down what I say to the level of what might be appropriate for an 8 year old...I assume that if kids are reading this board its because their PARENTS have given them approval to do so.
Still, I agree that "asshole" is a fairly strong condemnation and I don't use it often. But once in a while...it just cries out to be said. In this case, the somewhat crude (and repetitive and inane) attacks on "fat Americans" seemed to be one of those occasions. If that bothers you...well...you know the drill..

But, I would urge you to ask for the email addresses of a few of the countless individuals who have posted to this message board praising AC.
They are honest people too, you know. My email address would not be appropriate as I live on AC and own a business.

Those of you who get bent out of shape when inappropriate/offensive content is deleted should remember that this message board is paid for with advertising dollars from businesses on Ambergris Caye. You get to read it for free.

99.99% of what is posted is not deleted even though some of the content is not complimentary to AC (desertdiver is just one example). I think it makes the board interesting and fun to read provided it is honest criticism rather than constant grudge carping weeks or months after the vacation of the unhappy camper has ended.

i have nothing to sell. never did. i really am a housewife. i did go back. and went back again. and took a friend who wants to go back.

anyone who thinks NOTHING should be deleted should look at the long trail of dead message boards ruined by repeated trash being posted.

people getting folks to write to them, so that they can poison their thoughts about vacationing in Belize, with the expressed purpose of reducing Belize tourism.

there can be live viruses on message boards, folks who "get to know you", and then spread their poison around. that is why email addresses don't show on this board.

so choose your advice carefully. and just because someone rips on the island does NOT make them trustworthy.

this board is for public discussion of issues related to the island. i guarantee one thing, NO GROUP LOVES IT ALL THE TIME. No businessman loves it all the time. no public official loves it all the time. i am in no one's pocket.

but i love to work for the island. i kiss the sand when i land and i tear up everytime i arrive or leave. because i love the island, i have to be choosy sometimes. Like Chris said, 99.9% is left on, good or bad, and no one loves it all the time.

tis better to respond than purge is my motto. but sometimes i simply must purge if it is crazy information like there are dead horses on all the beaches, or trash on all the beaches, cops pulling people out of their golf carts by the hair at every corner, i have seen these and much more.

now its all water under the bridge. yell and scream about it all you want, but i have to do what i have to do.

c'est la vie. Long Live La Isla Bonita, its amazing and beautiful people, and its natural wonders. Come and see us, you will only regret you didn't come sooner....

i am american, and i have been accused of having a fat ass before. i don't send songs to my friends. i am not an attorney, but don't have anything against them. i curse in public all the time, but fefrain from doing it on the board.

i do not believe there are terrorists hanging out on the "about ambergris" board. nor do i believe marty's intentions are to protect me from terrorists.

i think the guy is just doing his job, on a board that he created for our enjoyment. so we can share what we like (& don't) about AC. anything he does here is ok by me.

And since you asked: I have been a civil rights lawyer for 27 years. For the past few years, I have specialized in elder abuse litigation -- I sue for profit nursing homes for violating the civil rights of elderly people by torturing them (sometimes to death) for profit..and yes, I do a lot of pro bono (that means free) work as well. In the past, my practice has concentrated on criminal defense initially and then whistleblower and plaintiff employment discrimination litigation...always on behalf of the little guy against well heeled big corporations and sometimes the government.
So that's "what side of the fence" I am on...

keep on with the lawyer bashing folks cuz that only means that you are leaving us accountants alone for a while!!! damn i like this freedom of speech. i guess i should thank a lawyer for that.

I think those first few lines was the info SUN was quoting from Susan's profile.

When you click on "who" it gives you info if the person has chosen to fill it in.

In otherwords, SUN was trying to sum up Susan as if it made any difference to the postings.

I'm going to step right out on that limb and say Susan strikes me as a highly intelligent woman. She could probably stand to laugh a little more, but some people are just serious folks. You can't fault her for not laughing as much as some of us do.
I would imagine it's hard to see the lighter side of life given her profession and the type of law she is doing.

Just remember folks, when your ass is in a jam, most people call on God first and then their lawyer. Hmmmm.

Regarding the use of the word "asshole". It is very apparent here that, as a wise person once said, "Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one, and everybody thinks everyone elses stinks".
We all have our own opinions formed of our own expectations and experiences. It seems there are people who really like AC, and want to share their experiences with others. There are also some who didn't like it and may want to warn others away. Hey, if you didn't like it, just don't go back. The happy people seem to outnumber the unhappy.
Personally, I will go back every chance I get, until it stops being a great experience.

Also, we need lawyers to protect us from other lawyers. What a system.

I appreciate all the information Susangg gives us, and has for almost 2 years. Good info FREE from an Attorney, does it get better than that? No it does not. Susan has been a great help on many subjects.
