McAfee in a telephone interview today with a Wired.com writer said he was innocent. He claims that Belize authorities, dressed in black and dropped off by the Belize Coast Guard, poisoned his dogs and were out to get him. To escape detection, McAfee said he hid out under a box in the sand on the beach, near his house on North Ambergris.

"Under no circumstances am I going to willingly talk to the police in this country," he told [the Wired.com writer] this afternoon. "You can say I'm paranoid about it but they will kill me, there is no question. They've been trying to get me for months. They want to silence me. I am not well liked by the prime minister. I am just a thorn in everybody's side."

McAfee says he thinks the government has a "vendetta" against him.

On the run from the police, McAfee insists he has no plans to leave the country. "I like it here," he says "It's the nicest place on earth."

Wired says it will run a full story on the McAfee affair in its January issue.
