Amanda - thank you for some sanity. Least we totally forget this started out about not being given notices.
To answer some of Trackers questions. WATER & SEWAGE: Do you drink the town water? We drink the rain water and I find it far better tasting than the bottled water that comes in plastic. Most of us have a three-part septic system that puts good clean water back into the ground and feeds our plants instead of dumping nearly raw sewage into the lagoon. Our gray water is run off into a catchment that is covered and healthy - again feeding our plants. Most of us have cisterns in case our wells go dry - which mine never has. So - I for one I think this is much better for the environment.
EMERGENCY SERVICES: Many of us moved here knowing that emergency services were not available. We don't kid ourselves - like some people who get very frustrated in town when they can't get a doctor. They think they have emergency services but the doctor won't get out of bed. Or when a certain licensed person demands $400 CASH before they would even talk to someone. Or when the big shiny fire truck can't get to a house that is burning down and the fire truck is stuck in the mud or the pumps plug up with silt when they are trying to hose it out of the lagoon? During those times the police will not let the old neighborhood bucket brigade system be used 'because it is too dangerous' so we have had to stand around and watch someone's home burn to the ground. Our neighbors - through our neighborhood watch have always come to the aid of anyone who needs it.
WALKING AT NIGHT: Where? We walk to our beaches or our neighbors but what's the need to go wandering around in the dark? Please don't try to be like the country so many of us left and legislate or choices in an effort to protect the drunk and stupid.
Have you sat out at night - away from the town lights - and marveled at the night sky? How about that moon last night - and again tonight?
GARBAGE: Up until a few months ago we carried our garbage across the bridge. Now they have us set it out by the road and sometimes it gets picked up and sometimes it doesn't. In all these years (up until recently) I have not seen garbage torn up alongside the roads because that is not how we handled it. I don't think this was an issue with individual home owners. Reports and Condos might not have liked having to 'boat' their trash to town - but as so many are fond of saying - that's the way it was when they developed up here.
INFRASTRUCTURE: Can anyone tell me any place in the world where a developer can come in and build without providing infrastructure? Then the developers take their money and leave the country leaving the gullible buyers and government to pay the freight?
OCCUPANCY: How many resorts north of the bridge are full? Maybe a more valid question is how many are sitting empty, incomplete or in foreclosure? I know - some of you are going to say 'if they had a road . . . do dah'. Do you really want a community of transits? That is what tourists are you know. Or do you want what you had that attracted so many of us here: a totally integrated (culturally, ethnically, religiously) full time population of the friendlies people on earth?
ZONING: Who wants a pig farm next to them? (have you ever smelled a pig farm?) Without a master plan that protects owners that could happen. I have to ask those of you who make a living selling real estate - How will a paved road and street lights affect our property values? Not the value of undeveloped land/swamp, but the homes in what you peddle as "One of the nicest residential areas on the island?"
