FISHING REPORT

April 21, 2013 - April 27, 2013

Weather Conditions: Partly cloudy to clear all week.

Air Temperature: Mid to upper 80s all week. Winds: The winds all week at 7- 12 mostly from the East.

Water Temperature: Some of the flats reached 80s on calm days.

Moonphase: Full Moon on the 25th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

GRAND SLAM: Eric came through on his second day at EP with a grand slam with Capt Kechu and more importantly his wife Hannah who accompanied Eric for the first time today. He will never fish without her again!

BONEFISH: Marion and Peter were able to land bonefish without a problem thanks to the good spirit and fish finding skills of Captain Erlindo. Erlindo's boat is one of a few in the fleet that has a lean bar on the front deck. The bar was a great help for Marion (AKA "Lefty") and her left side disability. Mike, Pete, Felipe, Richard, Tom, Al, Luke, Rusty, Ian, and Andy all had no issues with landing bonefish. Rob and Andy enjoyed an overnight trip to Bonefish Island and were rewarded with many bones at dusk and dawn. The trip is 2 days of guided fishing with an overnight on the island… it was perfect weather for it!

PERMIT: Mike and Pete from the UK added more permit to start the week with Capt. Emir. Capt. Kechu was on a TV show shoot with anglers Sandy and Michael who both landed permit on their first days. I can't wait to see that episode of Belize Outdoors on the World Fishing Network. Tom got a permit with Capt. Hilberto early in the week. Barney landed a permit with the tutelage of Captain Luis.

TARPON: George continued getting fish this week with several hookups each day with his Guide Capt. Alex. Felipe hooked three on Monday thanks in part to good casting and Captain Cesar's advice. Captain Vince was able to get his angler into some tarpon with a nice 60 pound fish that may have set a new high jump record for tarpon, Vince said he had to look up at this fish when he rocketed out of the water just 30 feet away. Vince is 5' 8" and his poling platform is 4 feet above sea level… you do the math. Holy tarpon jump! Grandfather/Grandson team of John and John teamed up with Capt. Cesar to land a tarpon apiece. They are rightly proud of their tarpon pin awards

OTHER SPECIES: Barracudas, jacks, ladyfish, and snappers, groupers, triggerfish.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONES - Christmas Island Specials, Gotcha, Crazy Charlie, and Turneffe Crab

FOR PERMIT - Avalon, Christmas Island Special

FOR TARPON - Olive Toad, Tan Toad, and Chartreuse toad

This Week's Summary:

A week of perfect fishing weather finally settled in opening up all the flats throughout the area. Lots of permit were fooled with tarpon fishing making a big appearance. The migratory tarpon are right around the corner. --Ed

Guide of the week: Capt. Erlindo for his expertise and patience in guiding Marion and Pete into some fantastic fishing that was more special to them than Erlindo can imagine.
